The Shaped Abstractions began as an experiment in ways to stretch canvas to make a three dimensional painting surface. I found that I could create a variety of forms by bending thin strips of wood around a heaver wood axis.After the raw canvas was stretched it was coated with with several coats of gesso. The color and tonal values remain dark and subtle.
